Management and Board of Directors
Dr. Erwin Szela, MD, MBA
Founder and Chairman
Dr. Szela’s business and clinical vision was the catalyst for YouMed which was formed in 2006 by Dr. Szela, his business partner Dr. David Feerst and his brother Paul Szela, a technology executive in Silicon Valley California.
Dr. Szela received his undergraduate in Applied Mathematical Engineering from Northwestern University, his Medical degree from Rush Medical College and his MBA in Healthcare and Finance from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School all at Northwestern. Applying his knowledge of clinician behavior, concepts of disease management and process improvement, they were able to turn NWS-IPA into one of Illinois’ most successfully performing physician managed groups. In addition to Dr. Szela’s service as the Finance Chair of Northwestern Suburban IPA’s Board of Directors he is also the principal of a successful Chicago area OB-GYN Practice Group professionally affiliated with ACOG, ABOG, AMA, ISMS, CMS, MGMA and others. Dr. Szela also serves on various qualities of care and healthcare advisory boards.
Dr. David Feerst, MD
Founder and Co-Chair
Dr Feerst, a native New Yorker, graduated from Northwestern University and spent several years in cardiovascular research and then matriculated at University of Illinois Medical School. He did his residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago and has been in private practice in Internal medicine for the last 22 years. He has served as the president of a 20,000 member Northwest Suburban IPA for the last 10 years which has emerged to one of the most efficient Independent PAs in the nation. Dr Feerst and his business partner Dr. Szela founded YOUMED in 2006.
Ron Hooper
Chief Executive Officer & Director
Ron Hooper has over 30 years experience in building technology companies. He was formerly the Chief Strategy Officer and founding Board Director at Litescape Technologies an enhanced enterprise VoIP application provider for Cisco, WebEx, Avaya and others. He was also cofounder of MagnetPoint, a Web services-based communication software company, where he initiated its strategic partnerships with HP and Sun Microsystems, with customers like Hitachi America, HP, Sun Microsystems, GM OnStar and Lucent/AT&T. Hooper founded AVIRNEX Communications Group, an international long distance telephone service provider with customers in 80 countries and operating licenses in the United States, Europe, Japan and Australia. He served as chairman, CEO and president until July 1997 and served as an advisor and member of its Board of Directors until it was acquired by Global Crossing and International Telecom. Hooper was a co-founder of Biztel Communications; one of the first facilities-based telephone companies after AT&T’s initial divestiture. Biztel merged with DialNet Systems and was purchased by MCI WorldCom.
Mike Radu
Vice President of Product Development & Engineering
Mike has an extensive technical background in enterprise class software development and is responsible for the design and development of YouMed software and services. As the founding CEO and chief technologist of Aptech Concepts, his most recent successes were in the development of British Columbia’s Health Care system, where he developed programs that help track patient services and Safeway Market’s, where he helped develop and deployed their customer loyalty programs. Mike brings a wealth of proven expertise in all aspects of secure software life cycle design and development. In addition to his data mining Business Intelligence (BI) expertise, he is also an expert in requirements discovery, analysis, software architecture and Design, Software Development CASE Tools, Distributed Systems and integration with third parties products.
Dick Murdock
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Murdock is the CFO and responsible for the corporate financial affairs
of the company. Dick is a seasoned financial executive who has been involved
with many well known silicon valley technology companies over the span
of his career. He is also concurrently the CFO of Divvio Inc., an internet
rich media analytics company founded by AT&T executives. Prior to
Divvio, he served as CFO and co-founder of Litescape Technologies, Inc.
Dick was also a partner at The Brenner Group Inc., an interim financial
consulting firm.
Dick received his BA and MBA from Stanford University and is a CPA.
Paul Szela
Founder and Board Advisor
In 2006, Paul along with his brother, Dr Erwin Szela and Dr. David Feerst
founded YouMed to fill a very specific need in the delivery of healthcare
services. Paul Szela has had a long career navigating early stage telephone
and network companies through unproven markets. Paul was the founding
VP of Sales and Distribution for companies like BACTC, Metricom, Siemens
and others that became the bases for AT&T Wireless and Verizon networks.
Marianne Lenci
Controller
Marianne handles day-to-day accounting for YouMed. She has built a strong
career in accounting over the past 25 years. Her background includes finance
management and process improvement at many familiar Bay Area companies
that include Peterson Holding Company (a privately held $500M+ Caterpillar
dealer) where she is currently Controller, Charles Schwab & Co where
she served as Director of Corporate Accounting, Beverages & More where
she served as their first Controller, and Williams-Sonoma where she served
as Assistant Controller. In the late 80’s, Marianne started her career
as an auditor at Ernst & Young where she earned her CPA.
Hamid Majidy
Director of Operations
Hamid Majidy joined YouMed as its director of operations and is responsible
for service output, network and security. Hamid has over 20 years of experience
in IT and managing information delivery infrastructure. He has extensive
experience in data processing, software development, sales and professional
services engineering and project management. He is well-versed in network
security and systems administration. He has broad experiences in areas
of ITIL (IT Information Library) best practices, open source, monitoring
and automation.
